Community sports roundup: Everett’s varsity rowers on a roll

The Everett Rowing Association’s varsity men’s 8+ team has won back-to-back major events.

The Everett Rowing Association varsity men’s 8+ team is on a roll.

The Everett boat captured its second straight major event as it won the Junior Men’s Varsity 8+ division at the Husky Open on Saturday on the Montlake Cut in Seattle.

Everett completed the two-kilometer course in a time of 6 minutes, 9.186 seconds. That was more than two seconds faster than Mount Baker Crew, which finished second.

This came one week after the same boat won its division at the Empire Sprints in Perris, California. Competing against teams from across California, Arizona and Nevada, Everett won in a time of 6:02.1, besting second-place San Diego by five seconds.

The team consists of Aidan Richer (cox), Ethan Senn, William Sweeney, Dylan Stengel, Ethan Miedema, Owen Moody, Andrew McCartney, Eli Hellman and Justin DeHart.

Everett had two other boats win their races at the Husky Open, those being the Junior Women’s 4+ and the Junior Men’s JV 8+.

Tanner wins Evergreen Speedway opener

Tyler Tanner had a successful start to the defense of his Evergreen Speedway Super Late Models points championship, taking the checkered flag at the Monroe track’s opening race Saturday night.

Tanner won the 100-lap race, which is also the first of the six-race Bud Crown Series, the track’s premier series, by more than three seconds over Garrett Evans. Doni Wanat finished third.

Lowe places at skiing nationals

Teegan Lowe, a senior at Monroe High School, placed in four events at the women’s U.S. Alpine Championships held March 19-26 at Sugarloaf in Maine and Waterville Valley Resort in New Hampshire.

Lowe placed 18th out of 30 competitors in the downhill, 23rd of 32 competitors in the alpine combined, 24th of 42 competitors in the super-G and 46th out of 69 competitors in the giant slalom.

Lowe then placed seventh out of 42 competitors in the super-G at the National Junior Alpine Championships last Thursday at Mittersill Cannon Mountain in New Hampshire.

Snohomish High School alum Callie Dahlberg also competed at women’s nationals, placing 39th in the slalom and 52nd in the giant slalom.

EdCC’s Tedrick receives NWAC baseball honors

Edmonds Community College’s Luke Tedrick was named the Northwest Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week for March 18-24. Tedrick, a sophomore pitcher from Federal Way, is 3-1 with a 0.77 ERA in five starts this season.

Tedrick’s efforts helped the Tritons to the top ranking in the first NWAC coaches poll. Edmonds (1-1 league, 16-5 overall) received three of the eight first-place votes. Everett (3-1, 19-5 overall) was ranked fourth, receiving one first-place vote.

The Edmonds softball team (7-3, 14-5 overall) was No. 5 in the first softball coaches poll.

Wakeboard nationals returning to Monroe

The World Wake Association Wakeboard National Championships are coming back to Monroe’s Lake Tye for the second straight year. This year’s nationals take place July 24-27. The event is open free to the public.
