Four athletes honored by Everett School District

Jackson’s Sherwood and Albright, Everett’s Hartt and Cascade’s Kopra receive scholarships.

EVERETT — The Everett School District honored four high school senior athletes with scholarships at the district’s annual Athletics Awards Banquet last week.

Jackson’s Yanina Sherwood and Everett’s Evan Hartt received the district’s Athlete of the Year awards. The winners were selected by the district’s athletic directors.

Sherwood, the female winner, was a four-year letter winner in softball and three-year letter winner in volleyball. This spring she led the Timberwolves to the Class 4A state championship in softball. She’s headed UNLV, where she will play on the school’s softball team and study civil engineering.

Hartt, the male winner, was a four-year letter winner in football, a three-year letter winner in track and field and a two-year letter winner in wrestling. Hartt is headed to Minot State University to play football and study chemistry.

Jackson’s Rachel Albright and Cascade’s Aidan Kopra received the district’s Robert C. Polk Memorial Athletic Scholarship. The winners were selected by the Polk family’s interview team based on work ethic, attitude and character.

Albright, the female winner, earned three letters in track and field and two in swimming. She’s headed to Seattle University to compete in the hammer throw and study nursing.

Kopra, the male winner, was a four-year letter winner in basketball and one-year letter winner in cross country. He’s headed to the University of Washington, where he’s interested in studying environmental science.

In addition, the second annual Healthy Heart Fair takes place at 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Everett Memorial Stadium. Money raised from the event, which is free to enter, will continue to fund the Robert C. Polk Memorial Athletic Scholarship.
