RENTON — Marysville’s Taniela Tupou, who played at Archbishop Murphy High School in Everett and the University of Washington, was one of five tryout players the Seattle Seahawks signed from their three-day rookie minicamp.
The group did not include former Oregon quarterback Vernon Adams.
Tupou was a defensive tackle at Washington, and practiced one day with the defensive linemen and two days at fullback during the minicamp. The Seahawks, in announcing the signing, list Tupou as a fullback.
The Seahawks released defensive tackles A.J. Francis and Lars Koht, safety Robert Smith and waived/injured safety Mohammed Seisay and wide receiver Jeff Fuller to clear space on the 90-man roster.
In addition to Tupou, the Seahawks signed former North Texas cornerback Jamal Marshall, Texas Tech linebacker Pete Robertson, tight end Ronnie Shields and wide receiver Tyler Slavin. Shields and Slavin signed futures contracts after the end of the 2015 season but were released following the NFL draft when the Seahawks signed 13 free agents.
Adams was one of three quarterbacks in the minicamp, but Seattle chose to go with former TCU QB Trevone Boykin and Jake Heaps, who signed free-agent deals last week, as the backups to Russell Wilson for now.
