STANWOOD – Wesco South No. 1 seed Mike Reading of Jackson won the 4A District 1 boys tennis singles championship Friday with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Reid Fenning of Edmonds-Woodway at the Stanwood Sports Club.
Both players advanced to next spring’s state meet.
In the battle for the third state berth, Reading’s teammate Alex Yee defeated Shorewood’s Sachin Narvekar 7-5, 6-1.
In doubles, Shorewood’s Nomar Mapalo and Aaron Lee upset their teammates, defending state champions Steve McCall and Scott Bourne, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, to win the district championship. Both teams qualified for state.
Edmonds-Woodway’s Mike Maldazys and Sam Zipper notched the third state berth, defeating Zach Tafoya and Daniel Redfern of Stanwood, 6-3, 7-5.
