YAKIMA — The King’s boys basketball team took a nine-point lead after the first quarter and never trailed in its 59-47 win over Newport on Wednesday in a 1A Hardwood Classic opening-round game at the Yakima SunDome.
The Knights shot 59 percent from the field and out-rebounded the Grizzlies 30-20.
Elyon Zevenbergen had 22 points and nine rebounds for King’s. Teammate Nate Kleppe added 12 points.
The Knights will play Freeman at 2 p.m. Thursday in a quarterfinal contest.
