Locker-room talk? Seahawks weigh in from their locker room

On Friday video footage was released in which presidential candidate Donald Trump was seen saying vulgar things about women. During Sunday’s presidential debate Trump described his words as “locker-room talk.”

Monday afternoon I was in a locker room, as the Seattle Seahawks opened their locker room following their practice at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center. Here’s what a couple players had to say about whether Trump’s comments constituted locker-room talk:

Receiver Doug Baldwin: “I’m not going to judge the man in that light because everybody says dumb stuff at times, everybody makes mistakes. I’m not too surprised by that, I’ll say that. Have I heard things like that in the locker room? Not that aggressively. Locker-room talk can be aggressive sometimes, but I don’t think I’ve every heard anything like that.

“He’s not in a violent sport. I don’t know if he really knows what locker-room talk is. It’s not that, I can tell you that.”

Defensive end Michael Bennett: “Locker-room talk? I don’t even know if that’s locker-room talk. I just thought that was kind of crazy to be talking about a woman like that. All these women in the world, a woman’s so important that without a woman none of us would be here. You can’t disrespect women. All this stuff that’s going on is terrible.

“I think anybody who goes out of their way to disrespect women in that type of way, or feels that because of their situation that they can disrespect women, that because you’re a superstar you can get away with it, that’s not so true. You have to treat people right and treat women with respect.”
