Murphy, Shorecrest girls soccer fall in state openers

Fife defeated Archbishop Murphy 2-1 in double overtime, and Prairie blanked the Scots 3-0.

VANCOUVER — Prairie scored two first-half goals in a three-minute span and tacked on an insurance tally in the second half en route to a 3-0 win over Shorecrest in a first-round match in the 3A state tournament Tuesday.

Malaika Quigley scored twice Sydney Weber also connected for the Falcons (12-5-3).

Shorecrest’s season came to a close with a record of 11-5-4.

It was the eighth consecutive state tournament appearance for the Scots under head coach Mindy Dalziel.

Fife 2, Archbishop Murphy 1 (2OT)

FIFE — The homestanding Trojans scored off a corner kick in the second period of extra time to eliminate the Wildcats in an opening-round match Tuesday.

Archbishop Murphy took the lead in the match with a goal early in the second half, but Fife knotted things up two minutes later.

The proceedings remained deadlocked through the first five-minute extra-time period before the Trojans secured the golden-goal winner.

Archbishop Murphy ends its season with a record of 13-5-2.

Fife improves to 19-2-1 with its victory over the Wildcats.
