CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton set an NFL rookie record by throwing for 432 yards against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
Newton tied the record by throwing for 422 yards in last week’s loss at Arizona, which was also a league record for a rookie in his professional debut. The NFL says that Newton’s 854 yards passing is also the most yards for a player in his first two games.
Newton completed 28 of 46 passes with one touchdown in the 30-23 loss to the Packers.
Packers nose tack B.J. Raji had one of fours sacks of Newton, and says “I knew he would be good, but if I told you I knew he’d be this good this early, I’d be lying to you.”
