Prep girls basketball: Shorecrest 59, Franklin Pierce 24

PUYALLUP — Shorecrest went on a 32-2 first-half run and never looked back in advancing to the 2A state quarterfinals in a rout of the Cardinals on Saturday.

Uju Chibuogwu posted a triple-double in the game leading all scorers with 14 points to go along with 15 rebounds and 10 assists for the Scots (15-10).

Jazlyn Owens added 12 points and Sheridan Stephenson tacked on 10 to complete a trio of girls in double figures.

Shorecrest’s defense held the Cardinals’ Alexius Foster, who came into the game averaging 19.5 points per game, to just six on Saturday.

Franklin Pierce (18-7) made its first state tournament appearance since 1997.
