BOYS BASKETBALL

3A District 1 Tournament

Consolation (winner to state, non-elimination)

Mount Vernon 69, Marysville Getchell 68

EVERETT — The Marysville Getchell boys basketball team made a major push in the fourth quarter of Friday’s winner-to-state matchup against Mount Vernon.

Ultimately, the Chargers came up short after delivering a 19-2 run in the final frame, dropping the contest at Everett Community College, setting up a loser-out bout against Everett at 4 p.m. Saturday at the same location.

Sophomore standout guard Arion ‘Bubba’ Palacol had 24 points and four rebounds while backcourt-mate Shawn Etheridge, a junior, added 19 points and eight boards.

Despite hefty contributions from both, along with sophomore Zachary Rice (17 points, four 3-pointers), Getchell (16-8), couldn’t slow down junior guard Quinn Swanson, who had a monster outing, compiling 30 points, six boards, two steals and two blocks.
