SURPRISE, Ariz. — Billy Butler went 3 for 5 and drove in two runs as the Kansas City Royals rallied with a five-run ninth inning to beat a Seattle Mariners split squad 8-7.
Kila Ka’aihue walked with the bases loaded with two out in the ninth to force in the winning run.
Franklin Gutierrez went 3 for 3 with a home run and drove in three runs for the Mariners. Mike Sweeney, a former Royal, also homered and is hitting .577 in eight spring games.
Royals starter Edgar Osuna, a Rule 5 draft pick from the Atlanta Braves, gave up four runs on five hits and two walks in three innings.
