EUGENE, Ore. — Bev Smith is out as coach of the Oregon women’s basketball team.
Athletic director Pat Kilkenny said Monday a change must be made after the Ducks went 9-21 this past season. Oregon has been to the NCAA tournament only once in Smith’s eight years on the job.
Smith played for Oregon from 1979-82. She holds the school’s career records for rebounds and steals.
She was 123-121 at Oregon, and the Ducks won the Women’s National Invitation Tournament in 2002.
Kilkenny says a national search for the next coach will start now.
