South Whidbey wins soccer tiebreaker 4-1

SULTAN – R. J. Erickson booted two goals while teammates George Supang and Josh Mitchell each added one as the South Whidbey High School boys soccer team beat Mount Baker 4-1 Saturday to claim second place in the North Cascades Conference.

Isaiah Murphy and Abe Smith-Groening each had an assist for the Falcons in the tiebreaker, played because South Whidbey and Mount Baker each finished the regular season with 13-3 records.

David Albert scored Mount Baker’s goal.

Sultan 1, Lynden Christian 0: Good defense made Jerry Perry’s goal in the 45th minute stand up as fourth-place Sultan upset first-place Lynden Christian in the teams’ final North Cascades Conference regular-season game.

Goals-Sultan: Perry. Goalkeepers-Sultan: Roesler. Lynden Christian: not reported. Records-Lynden Christian 14-2. Sultan 9-7.

Lakewood 5, Mount Baker 3: Lakewood went ahead on a two-out error in the sixth inning in the North Cascades Conference playoff game. Mike Work (4-1) struck out 13 for Lakewood.

Meridian 8, Lakewood 7, 9 innings: Lakewood tied the score in the seventh on an error, but Meridian came back to win on Eli Slesk’s bases-loaded single in the ninth. Mike Work was 3-for-5 with a double and a home run for Lakewood.

Lynden Christian 5, Granite Falls 2: Robert Rhoads was 2-for-2 for Granite Falls in the North Cascades Conference playoff game, but it wasn’t enough as Lynden Christian scored five runs in the sixthinning. Greg Marcantonio had a solo home run in the seventh inning for the Tigers.
