The Washington Stealth announced the re-signings of Kyle Sorensen and Mike Grimes on Monday. The signings are pending approval by the NLL

Both defensemen, Sorensen and Grimes have played key roles in the Stealth’s back-to-back appearances in the NLL’s Champion’s Cup and helped deliver the franchise’s first championship in 2010.

Sorensen was selected in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft and has played all five of his season’s with the Stealth. Sorensen has recorded 44 points (19 goals, 25 assists) and collected 288 loose balls in his career. Sorensen’s 2011 season was plagued by injury, but the Stealth say he is healthy and ready for the 2012 season.

“I’m feeling great and training hard for the Stealth season,” Sorensen said in a press release by the Stealth. “I can’t wait to get out there for training camp with the boys and start working towards bringing the Champion’s Cup back to Washington.”

Grimes, a 2011 NLL all-star game starter, is not only a key member of the defensive unit, but has improved his transition game as well. He led NLL defenseman in scoring last season, scoring 11 goals and dishing 10 assists. Defensively, Grimes forced opponents into 27 turnovers, good enough for second in the league and was ninth in the league in loose balls collected with a career-high 103. For his career, Grimes has amassed 54 points (22 goals, 32 assists) and collected 368 loose balls.

“Mike Grimes is one of the best all-around defensemen in our league and he continues to improve every season,” Stealth head coach Chris Hall said. “He has an incredible knack for the ball and is very dangerous in transition. He’s a big reason why we have been to the championship game each of the last two seasons.”

Sorensen and Grimes will join the rest of the Stealth players at training camp, beginning in December. The Stealth open the regular season on Jan. 14 at Comcast Arena against the Calgary Roughnecks.
