Two-out homers lift Red Wolves to win

DUVALL – The baseballs just kept sailing out of the yard.

Cedarcrest defeated South Whidbey 6-4 in a Cascade Conference game at Cedarcrest High School that featured three home runs.

“We’re starting to swing the bat like we’re capable of,” Cedarcrest head coach Scott Goldsberry said.

Jansen Woelz hit a two-run home run in the third inning and Dakota Bunce belted a two-run homer in the sixth inning that turned out to be the difference in the game for the Red Wolves.

Both home runs were hit with two outs.

“That’s what won us the game,” Goldsberry said. “Clutch hitting.”

Danny Parra (2-for-3) hit a two-run home run for South Whidbey in the top of the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough for the Falcons, who could have clinched a Class 2A District 1 berth with a victory.

Cedarcrest’s Tommy Edwards was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Ernie Child batted 2-for-3.
