Moving into the 7th Congressional District isn’t good for Edmonds, City Council President Strom Peterson said Thursday.
Peterson said that the 7th District would remain a Seattle-oriented district, which, he said, would make it hard to have Edmonds voices heard.
The 7th Congressional District, which Congressman Jim McDermott has represented since 1998, takes up most of Seattle. but the state’s redistricting commission has extended it north to Shoreline, Edmonds and Woodway.
In addition, Peterson said that he approved of continuing to have Edmonds divided between the 21st and 32nd legislative districts.
“I think having the 21st and 32nd gives us more voices in Olympia,” he said. “We have great representation from our current slate from those two districts and I am glad they will be fighting for us in what will be another tough year.”
