An Edmonds Police Department motorcycle officer was released from Harborview Hospital Monday after suffering non-life-threatening injuries in an accident that occurred at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 20, in the 22900 block of Highway 99 in Edmonds.
Police spokesman Sgt. Don Anderson didn’t identify the officer, who is expected to fully recover and return to duty. He has been with the department since 1998 and has several years riding experience, according to Anderson.
While traveling northbound, the officer was forced to lay down his motorcycle to avoid colliding with a vehicle that turned suddenly in front of him to enter a business driveway on the east side of Highway 99.
The officer’s motorcycle flipped, injuring him, but he avoided colliding with the motorist.
The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene and was cooperative with investigators, Anderson reported. As is standard in the case of an officer involved in an accident, an outside agency was asked to conduct the investigation. In this case, the Washington State Patrol is investigating and will determine what, if any, charges will be filed.
Highway 99 was shut down for 3 1/2 hours in both directions from 230th Street Southwest to where the highway intersects 76th Avenue W.
