Kim Shin of Mountlake Terrace advanced to the second round of match play at last week’s U.S. Women’s Amateur at the Kahkwa Club in Erie, Pa.

The 2004 Shorewood High School graduate finished stroke play tied for 21st by shooting rounds of 6-over-par and 1-over for a two-day total of 7-over 151.

Shin, 18, defeated Carolina Llano of Columbia 2-up to open match play before falling to Jane Park of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., 6 and 4 in the round of 32.

Park, last year’s runner-up, went on to win the championship with a 2-up victory over Amanda McCurdy in the Aug. 15 finals.

Shin, who will golf for the University of Washington, received an exemption to the tournament by qualifying for the U.S. Women’s Open earlier this year.
