LFP Elementary has interim principal
Linda Butler will serve as interim principal at Lake Forest Park Elementary for the 2008-09 school year. Butler was previously assistant principal at Shorewood and Shorecrest High Schools and a middle school principal in Everett.
A search will be done for a new principal for Lake Forest Park with the goal of having a new principal for the 2009-10 school year.
Peter Hodges, former principal, resigned at the end of 2007-08.
Ridgecrest PTA hosts barbecue
The Ridgecrest Elementary PTA will host a Back to School Barbecue at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5.
During the event there will be a brief presentation to thank the people and organizations responsible for the new playground equipment at the school. Sponsors include the Shoreline School District, the Ridgecrest Neighborhood Association, the City of Shoreline, Frank Lumber, North City Lumber and Ballard Camera.
Back to School event helped local families
The annual Shoreline Back to School Consortium event at Ridgecrest Elementary Aug. 23 was attended by 274 families, an increase of 120 families over last year.
Volunteers distributed more than 600 backpacks filled with school supplies. Families also received back to school essentials like socks, underwear and hygiene supplies. Stylists from the James Alan Salon in Shoreline provided free haircuts. Many of the families also visited the WORKS at North City for clothing.
Donations are still being accepted and can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the Center for Human Services, 17018 15th Ave. NE, Shoreline.
Clothing donations can be dropped off from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays at The WORKS at the former North City Elementary portables or by appointment by calling Jenny Brown at 206-546-9239 or Sarah-Ann Woodfield 206-890-1056.
Back to School Consortium members include the Center for Human Services; City of Lake Forest Park; City of Shoreline; Shoreline Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services; The Works of Shoreline PTA Council; Shoreline School District and the Readiness to Learn Program; YMCA, Turning Point; and The Vineyard.
District hires new administrator
Ford Waterstrat is the new manager for the Early Childhood Program and District Related Services housed at Meridian Park Elementary.
Ford will serve as administrator for the early childhood special education program for 3-to-5-year olds, the occupational and physical therapy program, those serving students with vision and adaptive physical education needs, and the Birth-to-Three contracts.
Ford retired in 2005 from the Northshore School District, where he served as assistant director of Special Education and director of the early childhood center. Before that, he was coordinator of Northshore’s gifted programs and a school psychologist. He served for 22 years as an occupational therapist and school psychologist in the Lake Washington School District.
Ford received a bachelor’s degree from University of Washington, master’s from Seattle University and got a program administrator certificate from the University of Puget Sound.
