LAKE FOREST PARK – Lake Forest Park recently hired A. J. Housler as the city’s interim finance director.
Housler served as finance director and later as administrative services director for the city of Edmonds before retiring in 1998 and is currently a Mountlake Terrace City Council member.
Since retiring, he’s worked as an interim finance director for the cities of Marysville, Bothell and Puyallup.
“I’m glad to be here,” Housler said. “I’ve met all the staff and the people of Lake Forest Park are great.”
Housler is stepping in because the city’s current finance director, John Hawley, is headed to Iraq next week to help in the effort to rebuild that country’s government. Hawley will be in Iraq for the next six months.
Human services grants distributed
The Lake Forest Park City Council approved granting $63,628 in federal Community Development Block Grant funds to several human services agencies, as recommended by the city’s Human Services Commission.
The Shoreline/Lake Forest Park Senior Center will receive $9,741. The Council approved giving $28,000 to a King County housing repair program and giving $18,000 to a King County pool for affordable and low income housing capital projects. The city will keep $7,413 to pay for the planning and administration of these grants.
New maintenance position approved
The Lake Forest Park City Council voted Sept. 25 to approve hiring a new maintenance worker position in the city’s Public Works department.
When the Council adopted the 2003 budget, it included requiring any positions that are vacant be reauthorized by Council vote. King County is paying for the city to analyze the amount of leaking water and rainwater run-off going into the city’s sewer pipes.
The city has been compiling a list of maintenance needs identified by this project and the position is needed to address these needs. The position will be fully funded from sewer utility revenue.
Wireless agreement
The Lake Forest Park City Council voted to approve a franchise agreement with VoiceStream, a wireless communications company, allowing the company to build five sites for radio equipment throughout the city of Lake Forest Park over the next three to five years. The locations for these sites have not been determined yet.
