The Lynnwood girls soccer team is progressing.

After suffering a series of blowout losses to start the season, the Royals’ defense has tightened up considerably.

Led by senior defender Tamara LaGrandeur, Lynnwood has allowed four or fewer goals in five of its last six games.

“Our defense has kind of gotten on the same page,” head coach Kim Plumis said. “At this point it seems like we’re just making a few mistakes per game that are being capitalized on and we’re working on fixing that.”

The Royals lost 3-0 to Shorecrest and 4-0 to Mountlake Terrace last week, two of the top teams in the Western Conference South Division. Lynnwood’s closest game this season is a 2-1 loss to Mariner on Sept. 21.

In addition to continuing to improve on defense, the Royals are looking to generate more offense in the second half of the regular season.

“We really have to learn how to go forward and make something happen,” Plumis said.

The key will be moving the ball around, passing effectively and providing support for each other, she added.

Speedy sophomore forward Amanda Overdick is supported by two play-making midfielders in sophomore Lauren Jacobson and junior Rochelle Hann.

“We expect to get better,” Plumis said. “That’s playing competitively and not getting shut out. That’s what we’re looking out for.”
