Eating disorders workshop at JHS
An Eating Disorders and Cutting Workshop will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 8 in the Jackson High School Library. A light dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.
Eating disorders and cutting are problems for teens. Young people may develop unhealthy eating habits or turn to cutting as a way of coping with the pressures of adolescence.
Cynthia Jolly, a licensed therapist, will present information on eating disorders and cutting. Greg Gelderman, principal at Heatherwood Middle School, and his daughter Stacey, will share their personal experience. Attendees will learn what causes these issues, how to recognize them and how to get help.

AMHS adopts local flood victims
Archbishop Murphy High School has adopted a family that lost all of their belongings and had their mobile home severely damaged by the recent flood.
The family recently moved back into their trailer. Their electricity has been reconnected.
Staff members delivered a refrigerator to the family as well as a microwave and firewood.
Thanks to the generosity of the school community, the family now has a refrigerator, mattresses for the children, a television, sofa, microwave oven, some wood for their stove and a washer and dryer. Some needed repairs have been made on the trailer.
Several classes have been collecting things for the kitchen and toys for the children. The rest of the family’s needs will be taken care of by the school’s cash donations.
AMHS students win music honors
Three Archbishop Murphy High School students have been accepted to participate in the MENC All-Northwest Honor Groups at the Oregon Convention Center Feb. 18.
The students submitted a recorded audition and were chosen from thousands of applicants from Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming.
The students are Ian McKnight for band, Sara Hogenson for women’s choir and Isaac Bond for mixed choir.
After submitting a recorded audition, Michael Elledge will join 600 student musicians that have been accepted into the WMEA All-State Choir in Tacoma on March 22-25.
Ian McKnight and Glade Hall will perform in Pacific Lutheran University’s Northwest High School Honor Band with 200 high school musicians from Oregon and Washington. The performance is 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Jan. 12-13 in Lagerquist Concert Hall.
