Edmonds Rotary bestows awards

The Rotary Club of Edmonds recently announced its 14 scholarship recipients. Each high school graduating senior will receive a $1,200 scholarship. The students are: Haley Guffy, Grace Kendall, Ashlee Malkuch, Matthew Murphy and Tannya Wilson (from Edmonds-Woodway High School); Lisa Akiyama, Olivia Brent-Fielding, Donald Chan, Donna Chan and Si-Hyun Woo (from Meadowdale High School); and Christopher Barth, Uneek Maylor, Kendra Seton and Anna Vinokurova (from Scriber Lake High School).

Preschool offers summer camp

MorningStar Christian Childrens’ Academy is now registering for Summer Camp 2005. Summer Camp runs July 11 through Aug. 5. It offers a program for children ages 3 to 5 with special needs. Call 425-743-4715 for more information.

AAUW honors local students

The Edmonds branch of the American Association of University Women awarded the Edythe Henderson $1,000 scholarships to Anna Vinokurova of Scriber Lake High School and Kelsey Maass of Edmonds-Woodway High School. These scholarships are designed to encourage women to advance in the fields of math and science.

Vinokurova has maintained a 3.6 grade-point average while completing a 65-hour internship at Value Vet Animal Clinic and participating in 4-H. She will initially attend Edmonds Community College, then plans to continue her education in Washington State University’s veterinary studies program.

Maass maintained a 4.0 grade-point average while taking classes in the International Baccalaureate program, and she is a National Merit Commended Scholar receiving honors in math and chemistry. She plans to attend Azusa Pacific University this fall, majoring in math or engineering.

Students receive MS awards

Twenty-two Washington state students who have multiple sclerosis or whose parents have the disease have been awarded scholarships from the National MS Society, the Greater Washington Chapter announced this week.

Local student Erica Taylor from Mountlake Terrace High School was among the recipients.

The scholarships, which averaged $3,000 each, were available to high school seniors, high school graduates or GED graduates who have MS, or who are the children of people with MS, who will be attending an accredited post secondary school for the first time.

Comcast honors local students

Four South Snohomish/North King county students have been recognized as Comcast Leaders and Achievers with a $1,000 grant from The Comcast Foundation for outstanding commitment to community service.

The winners are: Melissa Sampaga from Mountlake Terrace High School; Brandon Wu from Jackson High School; Julie Terreson from Shorewood High School; Ashlee Malkuch from Edmonds-Woodway High School; and Lisa Akiyama from Lynnwood, Meadowdale High School.

All four scholarship recipients plan to attend University of Washington in the fall.

Meadowdale honored by Scouts

Meadowdale High School recently received Girl Scouts’ Token of Appreciation Award for its service to Girl Scouts – Totem Council. Meadowdale has hosted the annual Pathways event for four years.
