Local named ‘Man of the Year’

Jong Kwan “JK” Park, a Mill Creek resident, was named senior Man of the Year at Grove City College recently. Park’s selection was based on scholarship, leadership and service. The candidates were voted upon by the students and faculty. It is one of the highest honors that the college can bestow.

At Grove City, Park is a psychology and sociology major. He is also a member of the men’s varsity soccer team and Touring and Chapel Choirs. He has served in leadership roles on several committees and is a member of a number of college honoraries.

Grove City College is located in Pennsylvania.

UW honors high-scoring students

The Washington Search for Young Scholars, operated by the Halbert and Nancy Robinson Center for Young Scholars at the University of Washington, recognized fifth- and sixth-grade students for scoring in the upper 3 percent of all pupils taking the Washington Assessment of Student Learning. These young scholars were honored at a ceremony May 7.

They include: Elizabeth Aagard (Mill Creek Elementary), Rachel Choi (Northshore Christian Academy), Michael Haeger (Heatherwood Middle School), Albert Lee (Heatherwood), Justin Luu (Heatherwood), Sean Roe (Heatherwood), Amy Tjio (Heatherwood) and Joshua Waugh (Heatherwood).

New Penny Creek principal named

Shelley Petillo has accepted the principal position at Penny Creek Elementary in south Everett east of Mill Creek. She currently is the principal at English Crossing Elementary in the Lakewood School District.
