Camps help kids develop their dancing and singing skills
Rising Stars Singing Camp in Edmonds has two locations: One that provides an intimate and safe feeling for younger kids who need to stretch their wings, and a second location for older kids who are ready to perform on a real stage.
The first location is for ages 5 to 7 at the Christian Science Church, 551 Maple St., Edmonds. This camp is led by Elena Delisle-Perry, a popular Music Together teacher.
Here the younger kids can practice solos and be part of a group song and dance number that they will perform at the end of the week for family and friends.
The other location, for ages 8 to 12 and 12 to 16, is at The Phoenix Theater, 9673 Firdale Ave., Edmonds.
This camp is for those kids who really like being on stage. They can put together their solo and group songs to perform at the end of the week. Malya Muth, a singing coach who specializes in contemporary music, leads these camps. The kids also learn choreography from a dance teacher.
Rising Stars Camp believes that singing and performance training enhances life skills by strengthening kids' ability to focus, pay attention to details, collaborate as a team and build self confidence.
Besides learning solo and group songs, kids also improve their singing ability, play music and dance games, learn stage movement, conquer stage fright, and make new friends.
The weeklong camp sessions are July 8, 15 and 29. Half-day camps for younger kids are $195; full-day camps for older kids are $295. If you register before April 30 you'll receive a 15 percent discount.
