ARLINGTON — The first round of fall flooding could start Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Seattle.
Several inches of rain could fall in Snohomish County by Thursday morning.
Local rivers are expected to rise Wednesday, with minor flooding predicted or possible for the Stillaguamish River in the Silvana, Arlington and Oso areas, particularly near Island Crossing.
The Stillaguamish near Granite Falls, and the Snohomish and Skykomish rivers are not expected to flood with the current predicted rainfall.
River levels are predicted to decrease again starting Thursday.
Historically, Snohomish County most often sees flooding in November and December.
The first few storms this year will be closely watched where the path of the North Fork Stillaguamish River still is shifting after the March 22 mudslide in Oso.
The Snohomish County Public Utility District recommends people brush up on preparedness at www.takewinterbystorm.org, which offers suggestions for emergency kits, planning ahead with friends and family, and keeping informed about weather conditions.
Local cities also recommend people clear leaves from their storm grates and know in advance where their local government or fire department provides sandbagging supplies in case of a major storm.
