Help plan new school
The Stanwood-Camano School District is looking for volunteers to help plan for a proposed new high school.
Officials are looking for a mix of people from the community. The district is accepting nominations, and people cannot nominate themselves or others. To serve on the committee, volunteers must commit to eight 2-hour meetings in the next 18 months.
To nominate someone, people can download a form at www.stanwood.wednet.edu. Forms must be returned by Feb. 4 to Maurene Stanton at the district office, 26920 Pioneer Highway, or by email to mstanton@stanwood.wednet.edu.
Utility rate hike cancelled: Arlington has cancelled a planned utility rate increase for 2015, marking the third year in a row of consistent sewer charges.
A city ordinance approved in 2010 calls for an annual rate increase based on the area’s Consumer Price Index. However, the city council voted unanimously Tuesday to cancel this year’s increase. The council made the same decision in 2013 and 2014, citing a stable utility budget.
Average residential sewer rates increased from about $57 a month in 2010 to $70 in 2013, according to the city. The rate has held steady since.
